Cover Crop Plus offers higher incentive payments to Maryland farmers who plant enhanced cover crop mixes to improve soil health and water quality. Farmers sign a 3-year contract to grow multispecies cover crop mixes on the same fields, maintain a living root system year-round, and use no-till or conservation tillage. Base payment is $125 per acre per year, with optional add-on practices that can increase the rate up to $180 per acre. The program also includes a grants component (Cover Crop Plus+) providing up to $100 per acre for innovative cover cropping practices to minimize disturbance and maintain continuous soil cover.
