LIGHT helps Baltimore City residents get free or low-cost services to make their homes safer, healthier, and more comfortable. LIGHT Coordinators meet with residents to assess their needs and connect them with programs such as home repairs, energy efficiency improvements, and lead hazard reduction. Assistance types include grants, forgivable loans (forgiven after 5 years if primary residence is maintained), and deferred loans (repaid from sale proceeds when property is sold; loans secured by lien on home). Eligible repairs include disability accessibility modifications, electrical, energy efficiency, HVAC, lead paint hazard reduction, plumbing, roof, sewer line, water line, and other repairs. Some programs may have waiting lists.
