About this opportunity
The Maryland Emergency Food Program (MEFP) provides annual grants to nonprofit feeding organizations — such as soup kitchens, food banks, food pantries, shelters, residential treatment programs, and after-school programs — to purchase food and distribute groceries and meals at no charge to individuals and families in emergency need. Grants are awarded based on available funding and demographic indicators of need, including population size, poverty levels, unemployment rates, and SNAP enrollment. Funds are allocated across all 24 Maryland jurisdictions. Currently, 104 programs around the state receive MEFP funding.
