About this opportunity

Title II, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides federal formula grant funds to State Educational Agencies (SEAs) and subgrants to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to improve the quality and effectiveness of educators, increase student academic achievement, and expand access to effective teachers and school leaders for low-income and minority students. Funded activities include educator recruitment, retention, and training; high-quality professional learning; induction programs; leadership development; and improving school working conditions. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) administers the program statewide, awarding subgrants to LEAs based on a formula using poverty data (80%) and population data (20%) from the US Census.
