Maryland's Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) is a voluntary federal-state partnership administered by the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in cooperation with NRCS, local Soil Conservation Districts, the Maryland Forest Service, the Maryland Department of Agriculture, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Since 1997, the program has helped thousands of Maryland landowners plant streamside buffers, establish wetlands, protect highly erodible land, and create wildlife habitat. The program pays farmers and rural landowners to remove environmentally sensitive agricultural land from production for 10 to 15 years and install conservation practices including riparian forest buffers, wetland restoration, retirement of highly erodible cropland near waterways, and installa…
