Maryland Remote Setting Shellfish Aquaculture Loan Fund (Nursery Operations)

$5,000 – $30,000 per award

About this opportunity

Provides affordable loans to commercial watermen who want to start or expand shellfish remote-setting (nursery) aquaculture operations in Maryland. The program is run in partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and uses Maryland Port Administration (MPA) funds. Borrowers who stay current on payments and meet production plan requirements receive partial loan forgiveness in the final year, effectively turning part of the loan into a grant (22%–27% of the principal). The University of Maryland Extension also provides training and business planning assistance to participants. Loans up to $30,000 are available on a rolling basis.
