About this opportunity
The Rural Legacy Program is a Maryland state program created in 1997 and administered by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to protect large, contiguous tracts of Maryland's most valuable agricultural, natural, forestry, and cultural resource lands from sprawl development while enhancing natural resources, agricultural, forestry, and environmental protection and supporting a sustainable land base for natural resource-based industries. The program creates public-private partnerships and encourages local governments and private land trusts to identify Rural Legacy Areas (RLAs) — delineated areas within a county that include both working farms and ecologically significant landscapes — and competitively apply for funds to protect land, complement existing land conservation efforts…
